Our doctrinal beliefs are expressed in the Apostles' Creed:
"I believe in God the Father, maker of heaven and earth: And in Jesus Christ His only Son, our Lord; Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; He descended into Hell, and the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God, the Father almighty, and from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting Amen"
We believe in the living reality of the Holy Trinity, and that God abides in the life of each believer and in the life of His Body, the Church. God, the Heavenly Father loves and cares for His people. Jesus, God's only Son, forgives and redeems us through the sacrifice of His blood, and the Holy Spirit moves within and through us to empower us for service. The Bible is God's own and only inspired Word and is our only infallible rule for faith, moral beliefs and values and their fulfillment through how we live our lives.
Statement of Purpose
The purpose of Singing Hills is to provide an environment, based on scriptural teaching, where Christ-centered leaders can minister to their people. We desire to attract those of all backgrounds to this environment where they can see and experience the reality of Jesus Christ. Thus, they may come to believe in Him, grow in Him, commit their lives to Him and go forth to serve Him. Singing Hills is a helpmate to Christ-centered churches, Christian schools and other Christian groups. The name "Singing Hills" is based on the scriptural passage, Isaiah 55:12 "You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and the hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands."
Statement with Respect to Peripheral Differences
Recognizing that there is a broad spectrum denominationally and doctrinally of both the leaders and those who use Singing Hills, it is our policy to encourage spiritual relationships based on the beliefs expressed above. Our policy is also to discourage the promotion of potentially divisive doctrines and views, while still promoting total freedom in the sharing of views and fellowship.
Statement with Respect to Current Social Issues within the Church
Due to recent media coverage of issues concerning homosexual rights and "Gay Marriage", and due to the fact that the "Christian Church Universal" is not sending a clear, unified message regarding these matters, we at Singing Hills feel we need to clearly state our position, and how it determines guest usage of this facility.
Our policy has always been that if a Church promotes Jesus Christ as the Son of God and the only means of salvation through His death on the cross and subsequent resurrection, then there is a place for them at Singing Hills. This policy has served us well for over three decades. Our statement of faith clearly defined in our contractual papers, and on our website, makes clear our stance that biblical scripture is the basis of our faith and the principles therein. Until recently, it has not been necessary to state further to the Christian Church that the Bible has clear teachings about God's great love for us, but how our sinful nature and behaviors keep us separated forever except for the salvation He provides through Christ. This has been the basis for the content of retreat and conference topics our guest groups have provided. It is clear, however, that not all Christian Churches today hold to the clear teachings of scripture regarding issues of sin and homosexuality. Singing Hills does not desire to have tunnel vision about any one particular sin. Our position is as follows:
We will not knowingly book a Church group who would teach that anything scripture clearly calls sin, is anything other than sin. Romans 1:26-32 gives a clear list of behaviors that God considers sin. One of these sins mentioned is homosexuality. We believe that the things scripture called sin 2000 years ago are still sins today. God's Word, absolute truth, inspired by the Holy Spirit, does not change with time, culture, or "new" understanding.
As you consider using Singing Hills as a retreat site, be assured that we stand firm on biblical teaching being taught here. If you are in disagreement with this policy, or our position on homosexuality or the promotion of any sins, then we respectfully ask that you choose a different facility for your retreat.
